Little Joseph: Everyone Has a Superpower

You don't have to be amazing at everything. Everyone is amazing at something!

What if the very thing that makes you extraordinary is something you already have inside you?

Join Little Joseph and five animal friends on a colorful adventure about discovering your strengths, appreciating the talents of others, and learning that being different is something worth celebrating.

Bird wishes she could swim. Fish dreams of walking on land. And the other animals find themselves wishing they could do things that seem so easy for someone else.

With a little encouragement from Joseph, they discover that everyone has unique abilities, and those abilities become even more powerful through practice, patience, and perseverance.

Little Joseph: Everyone Has a Superpower is a beautifully illustrated children's book that encourages confidence, individuality, friendship, and personal growth.

Little Joseph’s Field of Energy

By Joseph Stead

A children's story about sensitivity, overstimulation, and learning that feeling the world deeply doesn't have to be a weakness.

Joseph experiences the world a little more intensely than the people around him. During a camping trip with friends, he becomes overwhelmed and steps away, where a quiet conversation with his father helps him learn a few simple ways to calm his body, understand what he's feeling, and recognize when the energy he's carrying may not actually belong to him.

The book grew out of conversations Joseph and I were already having in real life—and then became something we could create together.

He wrote the story. I helped him turn it into a book.

For kids who sometimes feel overwhelmed by noise, people, emotions, or the world around them, Little Joseph's Field of Energy offers a simple message:

Sensitivity isn't something you have to get rid of. You can learn how to live with it.

Scrunch Your Butt Cheeks: How Little Bobby Found His Smile

By Bob Stead

A ridiculously simple body-based calming exercise that kids can actually remember when they're overwhelmed.

When Little Bobby gets upset, he's introduced to a simple way of helping his body settle down: scrunch your butt cheeks.

Seriously.

Underneath the ridiculous name is a practical lesson about something children aren't usually taught very well: sometimes calming your mind starts with showing your body that it's safe.

The exercise gives kids something concrete they can do when they're angry, anxious, overwhelmed, or carrying more tension than they know how to explain. And because the technique is called Scrunch Your Butt Cheeks, there's a pretty good chance they'll actually remember the damn thing.

Simple enough for kids. Useful enough that adults may find themselves doing it too.

Suzie’s Breath of Calm

By Bob Stead

A children's story that teaches kids something more useful than simply telling them to “calm down.”

Little Suzie struggles with anxiety. When her emotions and her body start feeling overwhelming, she works with a therapist who teaches her four different breathing strategies she can use to help herself settle and regulate.

And then Suzie does something important.

She goes back and teaches them to her classmates.

It's a simple introduction to breathing, emotional regulation, and one of the ideas I think kids deserve to learn early:

You may not always get to choose what you feel. You can learn what to do with it.
