Veterans Mental Health & Healing Resources

Finding Help That Actually Helps

As a retired Army combat medic, disabled combat veteran, and former licensed trauma therapist, I've spent years on both sides of the mental health system.

I've provided care. I've needed care. And I've experienced firsthand what happens when people repeatedly reach out for help and discover that the systems promising support aren't equipped to provide what they actually need.

During my own journey, I contacted hundreds of organizations looking for assistance. I encountered closed doors, empty promises, and programs that simply weren't designed to address what I was experiencing.

Eventually, I came to understand that no organization, therapist, or program could do the work of healing for me.

That doesn't mean we should have to do everything alone.

It means the people and organizations we turn to should help us reclaim our lives, not become another obstacle along the way.

This page isn't intended to be the largest directory of veterans mental health organizations on the internet.

It's intended to become a carefully researched collection of resources with a reasonable expectation of being useful.

We'll examine what organizations actually provide, whom they serve, what participation requires, and what limitations veterans should understand before reaching out.

We won't confuse good intentions with effective care. We won't mistake impressive fundraising for meaningful results. And we won't promise that a program will work simply because someone says it does.

The goal isn't to keep you searching for someone to save you. It's to help you find the support, information, and tools that allow you to move forward on your own terms.

NOT THE SHAMAN WILL NEVER ENDORSE A PROGRAM FOR PROFIT OR SPONSORSHIP. OUR GOAL IS RESULTS, NOT RECOGNITION.

THIS PAGE IS CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT

Building a trustworthy mental health resource directory takes time. Every organization listed deserves careful research before I recommend it to someone seeking help.

I'm committed to doing that work rather than rushing to publish another list of resources that may or may not deliver.

Thank you for your patience. More resources are coming.
