VGLI Premiums Waived

for Three Months

November 1, 2026 – January 31, 2027

If you have Veterans' Group Life Insurance (VGLI), you may not have to pay your life-insurance premiums for three months.

VA is providing a VGLI Premium Holiday for November, December, and January. Your insurance coverage remains in effect during the premium holiday. Benefits

Does this apply to me?

If your VGLI coverage is active on November 1, 2026, you're eligible for the full three-month premium holiday.

You don't need to apply. It's automatic.

If your VGLI coverage lapses or you cancel it on or before October 31, you won't qualify. Benefits

What if I already paid?

You don't lose the benefit. If you've prepaid premiums covering November, December, or January, VA says the applicable amount will be credited automatically to your policy. You can also request a refund instead. Benefits

What about automatic payments?

If your VGLI premium is automatically deducted from military retirement or VA disability compensation, you don't need to do anything. VA says those deductions will pause and automatically resume afterward.

AutoPay: No action required.

Recurring bill pay through your bank: You may need to stop the payments beginning November 1 and restart them February 1. Benefits

Important if you're behind on your premiums

The premium holiday does not erase an existing past-due balance. If you're behind, VA recommends paying the outstanding balance so your VGLI coverage remains active and doesn't lapse. Benefits

Does this apply to other VA life insurance?

No. This premium holiday applies specifically to VGLI. It does not apply to SGLI, FSGLI, TSGLI, VALife, or S-DVI. Benefits
